The 12th International Mycological Congress (IMC12) will take place in Maastricht, Netherlands,
August 11-15, 2024. It is possible to register with substantial savings until August 6. Starting August 7, it will be possible to register but at a much higher rate. As you will see under the “Programme” tab of the IMC12 website (https://imc12.org), there will be many symposia, workshops, and other activities that will be of interests to lichenologists. More specifically, lichenologists will be participating in this important event through two symposia, two keynote addresses, multiple posters, and one field trip. As part of IMC12, the IAL council organized a dinner for its members where the recipients of the 2024 Acharius Medal and the Mason Hale award will be unveiled.
Two symposia including talks focusing on lichenology:
On Tuesday, August 13, Symposium 21: Tropical lichens unveiled: Exploring biodiversity wonders.
Co-organized by Manuela Dal Forno and Marcela E. Cáceres.
On Wednesday, August 14, Symposium 33: Ecology and evolution of fungal-photoautotroph
interactions. Co-organized by François Lutzoni and A. Elizabeth Arnold.
Two keynote addresses given by lichenologists:
On Tuesday, August 13, as part of Keynote session 3: “Evolution, biodiversity and systematics”,
Jolanta Miadlikowska will give a talk entitled “An ecological clade-based genomic approach for the
study of symbiotic pairing mechanisms in lichens”.
On Thursday, August 15, as part of Keynote session 7: “Nomenclature”, Robert Lücking will give a
talk entitled “Global fungal diversity and the importance of dark fungi”.
One field trip for lichenologists:
On Friday, August 16, there will be a one-day lichen excursion in Eiffel, western Germany. The main
goal is to observe outstanding and rare lichens for this part of Europe growing on lava rock. However, this excursion is currently full.
IAL dinner with unveiling of recipients of the Acharius Medal and Mason Hale Award:
The IAL is organizing a dinner for its members at the IMC12. It is scheduled for Monday, August
12, 19:30-22:30, at the Orangerie located at: Grote Gracht 18, 6211 SW Maastricht (https://thiessen.nl/locaties-zalen/orangerie/). The cost is 50 Euro per person. Tickets for this event need to be purchased in advance. To purchase a ticket, go to the IAL website (https://iallichenology.org/). Using the “Membership” tab, select “Join/Renew”. Scroll down this page and select the “Donate to IAL” button. We are using this payment option to purchase tickets for the IAL dinner. Please pay 50 Euro and send an email to the IAL treasurer (email hidden; JavaScript is required) to let us know that your “donation” was for your ticket to attend the IAL dinner. You will receive an email confirming that you were added to the list of IAL members that purchased a ticket for the IAL dinner. Tickets need to be purchased by July 31, 2024.
